- Various green initiative measures including the railway regenerative braking project has decreased energy use in electrical rail terms by 2.5%.
- Rail travel is carrying more & more passengers and can do so with little carbon impact.
Rail travel - the Future
- Train Operating Companies are committed to providing further improvements.
- Brake regeneration (where electric trains return the energy to the power supply) will be put into place in more areas (savings have been found of up to 20%).
- In-service biodiesel trials are on-going, heading toward a more sustainable future.
